Employee Benefits Consultant
As part of an industry-leading organization with a strong focus on client retention and growth, you will help deliver tailored solutions by providing expert advice and access to unique products to meet the various and changing needs of our clients.
In this position you will provide benefits consulting services to an existing block of clients with an objective of growing that block through internal and external referrals, and recognizing new opportunities within the existing client base. This is not a direct sales role and you will not have a sales target nor be responsible for prospecting.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide consulting services and strategic advice to a range of small to mid-market clients across various industries;
- Provide analysis of clients’ financial arrangements and claims experience, and prepare/present reports and recommendations related group benefit projects;
- Provide technical advice/expertise to clients regarding plan design recommendations, costings, renewals, industry changes, etc;
- Write/deliver presentations/communications to existing and prospective clients that are thorough, powerful and persuasive.
- Manage partnerships with third party service providers and wholesalers;
- Establish strong working relationships internally with consultants and service team to collaborate and partner on projects;
- Support the business development team by meeting with prospective clients, analyzing policy details, preparing reports, negotiating with insurance carriers, and overseeing the implementation process.
- Recommend new approaches to work processes, and develop innovative approaches for continuous process improvement;
- Continually review client accounts and relationships and recommend ways to enhance the value TLG brings to the client based on a deep understanding of the client’s business and insight into industry trends;
- Establish and cultivate relationships with current clients, to position new opportunities that meet/exceed client expectations.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in a group benefits account management, sales, or consulting role;
- Requires knowledge of health and dental benefits products, pricing, business and industry acumen, strategic thinking, client focus and team orientation;
- Demonstrated ability to manage a block of clients;
- Strong technical expertise and the proven ability to remain current with respect to industry trends, provincial and federal legislative policies and changes;
- Ability to establish relationships at the executive level with existing and prospective clients for purposes of understanding the short/long term needs of clients, and identifying business development opportunities;
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills in developing solutions for complex client issues;
- Proven organization skills and the ability to effectively coordinate the delivery of projects and advisory services;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- Detail and results-oriented; ability to balance multiple priorities and work in a fast paced environment; and
- • Positive attitude.
Education
Bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent years of industry experience;
Commitment to professional development.
Required to complete the Life License Course and Examination (LLQP) within the first 12 months of employment; and

Benefits Analyst (Toronto)

In this position, you will provide support services to all the Consultants and Employee Benefit Specialists. You will be assigned an existing block of clients with an objective of growing that block through internal and external referrals, and recognizing new opportunities within the existing client base.
Direct Report – Director of Finance and Operations
Job Responsibilities
- Analyse data provided from the insurers: renewals, proposals, experience updates, etc.,
- Complete annual renewal reports and facilitate marketing reviews to ensure the client is receiving a competitive renewal proposal.
- Create client-facing illustrations using data from the insurer.
- Calculate pricing of plan alternates and alternative funding methods, stop loss, etc.
- Prepare reports and other deliverables to communicate results of data analysis, plan design alternative calculations, etc.,
- Create illustrations to demonstrate specific opportunities for cost and tax efficiencies within the employee benefits program’s structure,
- Provide service support, working between the Consultant/EBS, client, other internal staff.
- Be familiar with the structure of each assigned client, from plan design to funding arrangements and life cycle of deliverables,
- Maintain the good order of each assigned client’s file and workflow tracking;
- Work on new prospects with Consultants/EBS,
- Track Leads and Opportunities in Salesforce CRM
- Perform regular spot-checks of carrier data to ensure the accuracy of all components,
- Participate in the development and improvement of new ideas and illustrations,
- Track ongoing work, update Salesforce Renewal Opportunity Processes regularly and as necessary.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support Director of Finance & Operations, Account Manager, and overall operational and client goals.
Required Experience
- College or University Degree, preferably with three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the group benefits industry
- Experience in an underwriting role would be an asset
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, English
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet client and internal needs
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong understanding of various carriers’ claims paying and administrative processes, as well as their underwriting practices and pricing models,
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Web-based carrier reporting systems, and overall computer skills,
- Organized, creative, self-motivated and able to operate under pressure
- Flexible and open to change,
- Positive attitude and open to constant personal/professional improvements,
- Capable of working independently and in a team

Account Manager/CSR (Toronto)

The Account Manager provides exceptional account management services to their clients as well as provides support to the Employee Benefits Consultants and Employee Benefit Specialists.
Direct Report – Director of Client Services
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and retain an assigned block of business of approximately 45 to 75 clients
- Assisting clients with their inquiries and follow-ups either on your own or by supervising the carrier service representative and administrative staff.
- Assist the client in the management of disability claims, confirming billing inquiries and claims resolution and extension of benefits coordination for terminated employees
- Maintain a contact schedule with clients to ensure proactive service, both in office and face to face.
- Conduct employee meetings when requested
- Conduct pre-renewal meetings which occur every year 4 months prior to the renewal
- Develop custom communications for amendments or members who may be eligible to apply for an increase in coverage.
- Upon sale of a case, work closely with the carrier and client by gathering enrolement and underwriting material and ensure proper issue of the program, assisted by the consultant, when necessary.
- Maintain knowledge of all different carrier administration sites including knowledge with our in house program Salesforce.
- Objective is to provide our clients with a superior level of service as a result retaining our clients.
- Participate in webinars, seminars etc. in order to promote services and keep abreast of industry trends and activities.
Core Qualifications
- College or University Degree, Minimum two (2) to three (3) years experience in group benefits industry with a client facing role
- Understanding of the group benefits industry including funding arrangements.
- Completion or the ability to complete GBA and/or Life License Qualification Program
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment
- A positive attitude and strong team player who works well with internal and external stakeholders
- Are primarily a customer service focused person but are comfortable working alongside the new business development process
- A solutions and results oriented individual who demonstrates excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and provide deliverables as identified in a timely manner
- Proficiency and comfort working with multi-channel technology
- Valid Driver’s License and vehicle
